SET (Structural Energetic Therapy) has been developed over 30 years by Don McCann and is constantly in a state of evolution.

SET integrates myofascial restructuring, emotional energy release, acupressure, kinesiology and muscle testing, postural analysis, scar tissue and adhesion release, deep tissue therapy (see Deep Tissue Article) and rehabilitative massage.

SET also incorporates Cranial/Structural Core Distortion Release techniques to initiate the unwinding of the core distortion pattern which facilitates the soft tissue releases. (See Cranial/Structural Article)

SET is a specific sequence of techniques applied to protocols that have been developed to release old structural patterns that cause specific painful conditions and dysfunction.

The SET Therapist first addresses the primary area of discomfort using these protocols, and then releases any restrictions causing imbalances in the other areas of the body so the improved alignment is supported.  When this is accomplished, the whole structure supports balance and function, and maximum rehabilitation is achieved.

SET compliments standard medical treatments and chiropractic, both as a primary therapy and an adjunct therapy.

SET effectively treats multiple conditions: Upper body: carpal tunnel, neck pain, shoulder pain, tennis elbow, nerve entrapments, frozen shoulder, whiplash, headaches, trigger finger, TMJ, strains / sprains, herniated and bulging discs;  Lower body: back pain, sciatic pain, hip pain, knee pain, foot pain, plantar fascitis, heel spurs, strains /sprains, herniated and bulging discs, nerve entrapments;  General conditions: tendonitis, surgical scars and adhesions, nerve entrapments, arthritis, osteoporosis, joint inflexibility, strains and muscle pulls, fibromyalgia, lupus, scoliosis, hiatal hernias, and more.

What is Structural Energetic Therapy?

An individualized Body restructuring therapy that directly addresses a clients structural imbalances that cause pain and dysfunction.

Where did it come from?

It was developed over thirty years of successfully treating clients with musculoskeletal problems.

What are some of these problems?

Everything from Headaches and TMJ, whiplash and cervical disc, shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand/carpal tunnel, scoliosis/low back disc/SI, hip, knee, ankle/foot.

This seems to cover the whole body, could you explain?

Structural balance is dependent on each part of the body supporting the body. If any one part is misaligned then it affects the whole. Because of this SET in its development looked at the whole body and the soft tissue problems that existed. To treat them and bring them into structural support the whole body has to be realigned into balance. In doing this problems from head to toe are treated.

How does SET differ from Chiropractic?

Chiropractic works by manipulating the bones of the body in to alignment. SET works on the soft tissue that governs the alignment and movement of the bones. SET does not directly manipulate the bones, rather it releases the soft tissue that creates the misalignment and allows the body to move back into alignment more naturally.

If someone sees a Chiropractor would they still need to see a SET Therapist?

They work very well together. SET releases the soft tissue, muscles, connective tissue that the Chiropractic doesn’t address and allows the Chiropractic adjustments to be easier and to hold much sooner and longer.

How does SET differ from massage?

SET is Therapeutic and rehabilitative and directly addresses the client's pain and dysfunction from the standpoint of their pain and dysfunction.

A SET therapist uses advanced Cranial/Structural releases to initiate balance and support in the client's body. Every client who is in pain has a structural collapse that is responsible for their pain. Once the cranial structural corrections have been accomplished than there is a support that was not previously present in the client's body that the SEDT therapist will be able to further release in the restricting soft tissue so the balance and support can intergrate and release the client's pain.

Does this work with Athletes?

Very well, It unlocks potential that has been lost in the athletes structural imbalances and allows greater strength and coordination. It rehabilitates the athletes injurine and further prevents new ones.
